Directions for Basic Chemo Cap
Use worsted weight yarn and 5" double-pointed needles. 5 stitches=1 inch
Cast on 70 stitches and knit 1 purl 1 for three rows (stockinette) for band. Add 18 stitches evenly across row = 88 stitches (if using diamond pattern, 84 stitches).
Knit evenly for four inches.
Next row: k 9, k 2 together; Row 2: knit; Row 3: k 8, k 2 together; Row 4: knit; Row 5: k 7, k 2 together; Row 6: knit; Row 7: k 6, k 2 together; Row 8: knit; Row 9: k 5, k 2 together; Row 10: knit; Row 11: k 4, k 2 together;
Row 12: knit; Row 13: k 3, k 2 together; Row 14: knit: Row 15: k 2, k 2 together; Row 16: k 1 k 2 together; Row 17: k 2 together.
Cut yarn and loop over neighboring stitch, then weave through stitches to hide (do not tie a knot as this irritates sensitive skin).
Variations:- Alternate rows of complementary or contrasting colors.
- Knit one row in eyelet (knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2, repeat) and leave open or draw a complementary or contrasting ribbon through the openings
- Checkerboard: (O=cap color, X=trim color)
